Job Description

The State Bar of Nevada is accepting applications for an Outreach and Programs Specialist. This is a full-time, exempt position within the bar’s Administration Department.

Position Summary

The position will strategize for and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion projects/initiatives. The position works alongside various groups and State Bar members engaged in promoting participation by minorities in State Bar programs and activities through existing program management and implementation of new programs and services. This position will support state bar section leaders and provide support for the Nevada Bar Foundation, the state bar’s 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

 · Researches, develops, recommends, and executes creative strategies to foster the organization’s diversity goals. Reviews current practices and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support or hinder the state bar’s diversity goals. Develop creative methods to highlight the inclusionary efforts within the organization.

· Develops tracking and benchmarking to measure progress of initiatives and activities.

· Maintains knowledge of diversity-related issues, trends and best practices through research and outreach to affinity bar organizations, state bar associations, American Bar Association and other law related organizations

  • Works with affinity bar associations to coordinate and implement programs and initiatives related to DEI. Serve as liaison to external voluntary bars to help communicate between organizations and assist in their events. Attends external bar meetings and events as required.
  • Manages administrative responsibilities, program planning, implementation, and assessment.
  • Works with the Communications, Continuing Legal Education, and Practice Management Departments to increase visibility and participation of minorities in State Bar continuing education programming, leadership recruitment, and communication/marketing/publication features.

 · Supports state bar section leaders by facilitating communications to members, disseminating quarterly financial reports, tracking legislative proposals, and assisting in the development of section leaders.

· Manages grant programs that provide funding for DEI initiatives, lawyer wellbeing and other educational programs. Includes review of grant applications, monitoring of grant requirements, identifying potential grant recipients, and assisting applicants with grant submissions.

· Provides support to the Nevada Bar Foundation through coordination of biannual Foundation meetings, preparing meeting materials, facilitating annual grant applications and dissemination of funds, and assisting as needed the Nevada Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission.

· Develop training modules and informational resources. Create material and training programs to answer frequently asked questions to entities applying for grants. Build programs to assist in section leadership training.

· Manage lawyer wellbeing programs, including liaising with contracted individuals, tracking use of offered services, identifying lawyer wellbeing needs and trends, and communicating offered programs and services.

Education and Experience Required

Bachelor’s Degree and at least five years prior related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy. 

· Must be able to perform basic mathematical functions (e.g., adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing).

· Strong attention to detail and well organized.

· Must be team oriented but able to work independently.

· Ability to work on multiple projects and to make decisions in accordance with established policies, procedures and deadlines.

There is extensive repetitive motion in using hands/wrists.
